Stonewall and Trans Campaigner Meeting
Saturday 30 August 2014
On Saturday 30 August in London, Kaz Hawthorne Neumann met with a group of campaigners from the trans communities at a historic event hosted by Stonewall, the lesbian, gay and bisexual charity.
Kaz was invited to attend to listen to the other campaigners views and to be given the chance to put forward his own views as to how Stonewall can best support the trans movement.
Kaz viewed this meeting as a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from over 45 people involved in the trans movement and from Stonewall themselves.
As Founder and Facilitator of CTSAR Plus, Kaz is very happy to report that Stonewall have been listening to lots of people from trans communities individually and that they want to carry on doing this over coming months.
Stonewall have said that they are determined to make sure that they hear the voices of minorities within the trans movement and that they are very open to people’s views on the best way they can do this.
So........CTSAR Plus is working alongside around 50 representatives of the UK's Trans Communities, in a campaign to encourage Stonewall (the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Charity) to do more to support Trans Communities and those within the Trans Communities who identify as Lesbian, Gay or Bisexual, to help eradicate prejudice and achieve equality.
To quote directly from the Stonewall Website:
"At Stonewall we're determined to do more to support trans communities (including those who identify as LGB) to help eradicate prejudice and achieve equality. There are lots of different views about the role Stonewall should play in achieving that. We're holding roundtable meetings and having lots of conversations. Throughout this process we will be guided by trans people."
"On Saturday 30 August we met with a group of campaigners from trans communities to listen to their views on how Stonewall can support the trans movement. The meeting was a chance to hear directly from some people involved in the trans movement but it was just one of many conversations we’re having to inform our future work. We’ve been listening to lots of people from trans communities individually and we want to carry on doing this over coming months. We’re also determined to make sure that we hear the voices of minorities within the trans movement and we’re very open to people’s views on the best way we can do this."
